What’s the book about, you ask?

Mis[s]Fortune is a book about Nidhi Vinekar, a 25-year-old data analyst, who thinks the worst that could happen to her in the next two weeks is her ex-boyfriend getting married. In her relentless search for a closure, she tries crazy stuffs like throwing away her diary that had their memories and getting herself a ha-I’m-over-you tattoo. She then does what she does best – buries herself under work, hoping if she keeps herself busy enough, she wouldn’t have time to delve into her feelings. (Haven’t we all done that?) And so, she accepts a project that takes her to Mangalore, a peaceful coastal city, believing it’s the perfect distraction. But life reminds her that there are bigger forces to play. (Hasn’t life reminded us of this from time to time?)

The story makes you laugh, makes you wonder, makes you sit-up and say ‘Hey! That’s so me!’ and leaves you with a warm, fuzzy feeling in the end.

Mis[s]Fortune is a reminder that better things are just right around the corner. All you need to do is walk up to the corner.

So what was the Push Button for the book?

Push Button

Everything in life has a push button. A button that makes your alarm ring, a button that self-starts your bike, a button that makes the elevator move, a button that makes YOU move.

Though the Push Button for writing Mis[s]Fortune was boredom, publishing it needed something stronger than that. I conceptualised the story five years ago, on a particularly lazy Sunday. It took me a year to complete it. And then the realities of life kicked in (Read: I got a 9-hour job and 3-hour commute) and I had to stow away the book. Then about 4 years later, this January, life had to kick me pretty hard in the butt, for me to realise there are wondrous things one can do with it (with life, I mean, not butt). That, there, was my stronger Push Button. So, I picked up the manuscript from the dusty shelf and began to work on it again, making it better and more polished. And voila, it now has been published!
